Brushes

DoodLoop has one flexible brush engine and a big library of brushes built on top of it. You pick a brush, set a few things like size and color, and draw.

Choosing a brush

1. Tap the Brush tool, then tap it again (or touch and hold) to open its panel.
2. You will see the current brush at the top. Tap it to open the brush picker, a grid of picture cards, each showing what that brush's stroke looks like.
3. Tap a brush to select it and go back to its settings.

Because every card shows a real sample stroke, you can find your favorite by sight, no need to read names.

The brushes

Brushes are grouped into families:

Essentials: the everyday set:

• Pens: Pen, Pen Soft, Pen Choppy, Rough Pen. Clean lines, from crisp to sketchy.
• Pencils: Pencil, Pencil H, Pencil HB, Pencil 6B, Sketch. Grainy, natural pencil textures from light to dark.
• Ink and Brush: bold strokes that swell with pressure.
• Crayon: waxy and textured.
• Calligraphy: a chisel tip that goes thick and thin as you change direction.
• Highlighter: translucent, for marking over things.
• Airbrush and Airbrush (Darker): soft spray that builds up as you go over it.

Shading: texture and tone: Stipple, Spray, Grain, Grunge, Static, Charcoal.

The settings

• Size: how thick the stroke is. The current size is always shown in the tool dock as a size dot with its number below, drag the dot up or down to change it any time without opening a panel. In the brush panel you can also tap the value to type an exact number.
• Opacity: how see-through the stroke is.
• Stabilizer: smooths your stroke as you draw, damping hand jitter for a cleaner, more "digital" line. Higher values smooth more.
• Color: the current color (see Color).

You can choose how sizes work in Settings → Appearance → Brush sizes: a freeform Slider (any size), or four simple Preset sizes (S / M / L / XL).

Apple Pencil dynamics

If you draw with an Apple Pencil, two things respond to how you hold it:

• Pressure → Size: press harder for a thicker line. The slider sets how much pressure matters.
• Tilt → Size: tilt the Pencil to broaden the stroke, like shading with the side of a pencil.

Fingers draw at a steady size (there is no pressure from a finger), so these sliders only change things when you use a Pencil.

Make your own brush

Found a look you like? Save it:

1. Adjust any brush and its dynamics the way you want.
2. Tap Save as My Brush.

Your custom brush appears in the My Brushes group in the picker and stays there across projects and after you close the app. Tweak it again and tap Update My Brush to save changes.

Eraser

The Eraser works just like a brush but removes instead of adds. Switch to it in the tool dock. Its size is independent of the brush, so you can keep a big eraser and a small brush (or the other way round) without one changing the other. Adjust it with the size dot while the eraser is selected.
