Make your first animation

This is the whole thing, start to finish, in about five minutes. We will make a bouncing ball.

1. Create a project

On the home screen, tap the + button. Choose:

  • A name (for example, "Bouncing Ball").
  • A canvas size. "Square" is a good start. Bigger canvases hold more detail; free canvases go up to 1920px, and Pro goes larger.
  • A frame rate. Leave it at 12 fps for now, a classic, easy pace.

Tap Create and you land on the canvas.

2. Draw the first frame

  • Tap the Brush in the tool dock on the left, then draw a ball near the bottom of the canvas.
  • To change brush, tap the Brush tool again (or touch and hold it) to open its panel, then pick a brush from the picture grid and set the Size and Color. See Brushes.

3. Add the next frame

  • At the bottom, open the frames strip and tap + to add a new frame.
  • Turn on Onion skin (see Onion skin) so the previous frame shows as a faint ghost.
  • Draw the ball again, a bit higher this time, using the ghost as a guide.

Repeat: add a frame, move the ball a little each time, up to the top and back down. Six to ten frames is plenty for a bounce.

Copy a frame to save redrawing

Duplicate a frame (see Frames) and just nudge the ball, instead of drawing it from scratch every time.

4. Watch it play

Press Play. Your ball bounces, looping forever. Too fast or too slow? Change the frame rate.

5. Save and share

  • There is nothing to save. DoodLoop saves as you go, and your project is a file in the Files app (see Your files).
  • To share, tap Export and choose Video or GIF. See Export.

That is a complete animation. From here, explore:

  • Layers to keep the background separate from the character.
  • Sound to add a bounce noise.
  • Brushes for pencils, ink, crayon, airbrush, and your own custom brushes.

DoodLoop is proprietary software. No ads, no tracking, your files stay yours.
