Playback & frame rate

Playing your animation

Press Play to watch your frames run in order. It loops, playing over and over, so you can study the motion. Press again to stop and go back to editing.

Play early and play often, it is the quickest way to see what is working and what needs another frame.

Frame rate (fps)

Frame rate is how many frames play each second, measured in fps (frames per second). It sets the feel of your animation:

  • Lower fps (8–12) looks charming and hand-made, and means fewer drawings. 12 fps is a classic, friendly default.
  • Higher fps (24–60) looks smoother and more fluid, but needs more frames to fill each second.

You choose a frame rate when you create a project, and you can change it any time. Free projects animate up to 12 fps; Pro unlocks 24, 30, and 60 fps for fluid motion.

Fewer frames, same length

Frame rate does not change how many drawings you must make, it changes how long they last. At 12 fps, 12 drawings play for one second. At 24 fps, those same 12 drawings play for half a second.

The frame rate you pick here is also the default when you export, where you can still change it.
